What is a Cruiser Skateboard
This type of skateboard is designed for cruising down streets or level pavement. They're not meant for doing tricks or going fast. They're shorter than longboards and have bigger, tougher wheels than trick boards. Some cruisers have a kicktail in the back. They're easy to transport and great for local travel.
The Difference Between Cruisers, Longboards, and Trick Skateboards
Standard trick boards are made for performing tricks at the park or in the street. Cruisers and Longboards are designed for getting from A to B in style.
Kicks
Most trick skateboards are double-kick with raised ends at the front and back for performing tricks. Cruisers normally have just a back tail kick which means you can still use the kick to change direction but performing an ollie would be much harder. Longboards may have a back kick however due to their length it may be difficult to use the kick to change direction.
Wheels
Trick boards have smaller, hard wheels for control and quick acceleration. Cruisers and Longboards have bigger softer wheels which give a smoother ride over small obstacles and are faster once up to speed.
Length
Longboards are designed for long distances and maximum comfort. However, they are less portable due to their size and weight. Riding longboards is easier because of their size, however they are less maneuverable, which makes them more suitable for long, straight commutes. Their length means the wheels are further apart than a cruiser, giving a larger turning circle. If your everyday journey involves numerous turns or dodging obstacles, you might want to think about getting a cruiser which is more maneuverable.
Surfskates
Surfskates are a special design that enables the board to lean like it's surfing. Surfers favour them, yet they also function well for leisure rides. Explore our collections of surfskates here.
A cruiser skateboard is a great option to choose if you want a versatile board that is easy to maneuver and perfect for cruising around town or getting comfortable on a skateboard before you start doing tricks. Ultimately, a cruiser skateboard sits right in the middle of a traditional skateboard and a longboard, and it's a great choice for anyone who loves skateboarding and wants to explore different aspects of it.
FAQ
Are cruiser skateboards good for beginners?
Cruiser skateboards can be a good option for beginners who are just starting out with skateboarding. Their wide decks and soft wheels make them more stable and easier to control, which can help new riders feel more confident as they learn the basics of skateboarding. However, it's important for beginners to choose a cruiser skateboard with the right size and shape for their skill level and riding style, as some cruisers may be more suited for experienced riders. Overall, cruiser skateboards can be a fun and versatile option for beginners looking to get into skateboarding.
Can I do tricks on a cruiser skateboard?
Cruiser skateboards are usually designed for cruising rather than doing tricks, unlike traditional skateboards, which are specifically built for performing tricks like ollies, kickflips, and grinds. While it is possible to perform some basic tricks on a cruiser skateboard, such as small jumps or manuals, they are not generally recommended for more advanced tricks due to their design and intended use. However, some skilled skateboarders may be able to modify their cruiser skateboard with different components to make it more suitable for trick skating.
