How to Choose the Best Skate Shoes
There are some key factors to consider when you buy new skate shoes. First, the type of skating is important. If you’re doing street skating, having more of a low-profile shoe with a good grip and board feel is essential. For park and bowl skaters, a higher profile shoe with good cushioning for absorbing bigger impacts is the better choice.
The Significance of Proper Fit and Sizing
Skateboarding requires precise movements and a lot of footwork. The right skating shoe size is essential for comfort, performance and your health. Skating with shoes that don’t fit properly can lead to slips, trips, and falls which can potentially cause serious injury. Your feet should comfortably fit inside the shoe without feeling too tight. It’s important to make sure that the toe box has enough room so your toes won’t be cramped when you skate. Our shoes are all sold in US men sizing.
Tips for Fabrication
When performing ollies or flip tricks on your skateboard, you slide the side of your shoe up the top of the deck. The grip tape on your deck is abrasive and over time will wear away at the upper of your shoe. For this reason suede or leather is the preferred material over canvas as it is more durable. Some shoes also have an inner or outer toe-cap (an extra layer of fabric) which also extends the life of the shoe.
The type of skating you do will also influence the fabrication of the shoe best fitting for you.
Technical street skaters often wear a vulcanised shoe as the thinner sole provides more sensitive board feel under their feet.
Skaters who like big rail and drops will be looking for a shoe with good cusioning to reduce the impact on landing so look for a vulcanised shoe with a good insole or a cup sole with an injected cushioning section.
Vert skaters and bowl skaters often bail from tricks by sliding on their knees which can cause wear on the top of the toe section of their shoes, look for a toe-cap to prolong the life of the shoe.
Skateboard Footwear that Matches Your Lifestyle
For skateboarders, having the right skateboard shoes to match your lifestyle is essential. Style and comfort are key when it comes to skating, and having the right pair of skate shoes will make you feel comfortable while you ride. The shoes must be durable and able to withstand the daily grind of boarding whilst also being stylish and comfortable. At Boardstore you'll find a wide variety of skateboarding shoes available for every budget, lifestyle, and skill level.
