What is a Longboard Skateboard

This type of skateboard is designed for cruising down streets or level pavement. They're not meant for doing tricks. They're longer than cruisers and have bigger, tougher wheels than trick boards. Some longboards have a kicktail in the back. Drop through and drop down styles are often used for speed downhill skating and slides.

The Difference Between Cruisers, Longboards, and Trick Skateboards

Standard trick boards are made for performing tricks at the park or in the street. Cruisers and Longboards are designed for getting from A to B in style.

Kicks

Most trick skateboards are double-kick with raised ends at the front and back for performing tricks. Cruisers normally have just a back tail kick which means you can still use the kick to change direction but performing an ollie would be much harder. Longboards may have a back kick however due to their length it may be difficult to use the kick to change direction.

Wheels

Trick boards have smaller, hard wheels for control and quick acceleration. Cruisers and Longboards have bigger softer wheels which give a smoother ride over small obstacles and are faster once up to speed.

Length

Longboards are designed for long distances and maximum comfort. However, they are less portable due to their size and weight. Riding longboards is easier because of their size which makes them more suitable for long, straight commutes. Their length means the wheels are further apart than a cruiser, giving a larger turning circle and wide smooth turns. If your everyday journey involves numerous turns or dodging obstacles, you might want to think about getting a cruiser which is more maneuverable.
