Ceramic bearings in skateboards are often chosen because they offer a combination of smoothness, durability and resistance to rust and corrosion. Ceramic balls inside the bearings are harder and less deformable than steel balls, leading to less friction, longer lifespan, and a smoother ride. They also don't rust, making them ideal for commuting or riding in wet conditions. However, it's important to note that while ceramic bearings are durable, they can also be more brittle and prone to breaking under high impact, this makes them more suitable for low-impact skating or commuting than for aggressive skateboarding with jumps or large obstacles.
